Lot Essay

Located at the mouth of the Tiber river, the salt beds around the town of Ostia were originally built by the Etruscan kings, and the terrain has produced an excellent quality of salt since antiquity. In this sketch, Gibert captures the vast expanse of the flat terrain which recedes into the distance.
