Lot Essay

The design for these candelabra was commissioned as part of a large surtout de table for the Comtesse Furtado, circa 1865-1870 and executed by the sculptor François Gilbert. Odiot worked with Gilbert over a number of years and used many of his designs, especially for his grandest commissions. A similar service, in silvered bronze, is in the collection of the Museé de Compiegne, France.
