The inscription reads: Hoc cum tribus aliis Dono dedit Gul. Bankes de Winstanley in Agro. Lancastr. Arm. hujus Collegii olim Sup. Ord. Commensalis. 1787 and translates to William Bankes of Winstanley, Squire in the County of Lancashire and formerly Commensal of Superior Ranking of this College gave this as a gift with three others in the year 1787.

The arms are those of Bankes, for William Bankes of Winstanley (d. 1800).
