Lot Essay

The Paulus III Pont Max is part of the work 'Loggie di Rafaele nel Vaticano', depicting the work executed by Rafael and his assistants between 1518-1519 in the Vatican. The painter Gaetano Savorelli and architect Pietro Camporesi, as well as other draughtsman and engravers worked together on this project between 1774 and 1776.
These decorations of doors are remarkable for their size, coloring and presentation of several design elements.
