The bowl of shaped lobed circular section supported on a dolphin and wave motif base, with block feet, centrally chased with initials DML, the fountain with a crenellated border, further decorated with female nudes playing in waves, with a central finial cast as three cupids, one holding a gilt shell set with a pearl, with eight detachable rock crystal scrolls simulating water, engraved with an inscription, marked under foot, on side of fountain and on the nut, the finial apparently unmarked, the bowl and fountain each further engraved 'OMAR RAMSDEN ME FECIT'
The cistern 14¼ in. (36 cm.) diameter
226.5 oz. (7,040 gr.) gross
The inscriptions reads: 'WROUGHT FOR DOROTHEA MARY BY COMMAND OF HER HUSBAND HERBERT MUSCHAMP LINGFORD, CHRISTMAS MCMXXXI' (2)

Lot Essay

The pool bowl and water sprites fountain are recorded as seperate entries in Ramsden's workbooks, although each is given order number 2992 with the bowl completed 19 March 1931 and the fountain five months later, on 7 August.
