Lot Essay

The form of this fruit dish is based on Renaissance rosewater or sideboard dishes of the 14th and 15th centuries. During his student years Ramsden was known to have gone to the Victoria and Albert museum and may well have seen examples from which he has taken the ideas for this dish, which he calls 'Catherine Wheel Fruit dish or bowl.'
