This arresting portrait of Salvador Dali is typical of Hagemeyer's mature style. Neutral or dark backgrounds, subdued natural light and serious poses create an intangible mood from which the powerful personalities of his sitters emerge.

It appears that Hagemeyer must have later reused this mount for this image; the mismatched notations on the reverse of the mount refer to an earlier print.
