Lot Essay

This is a particularly well drawn example of a dish from a small group each of which has a ground of small black spirals. An almost identical dish, formerly in the Barlow Colection was sold by the Savile Club (Geza Fehérvári: Islamic Pottery, A Comprehensive Survey based on the Barlow Collection, London, 1973, no.229, p.161 and pl.96). Further examples of the group are illustrated together by Nurhan Atasoy and Julian Raby (Iznik, the Pottery of Ottoman Turkey, London, 1989, pls.492-500, pp.248-9).
