COMTES LAFON
As is often the case in Burgundy the history of many of its great estates is complicated and difficult to put into just one parargraph. So to be brief, the family have their origins in Meursault from around the date of 1865. Many of the vineyards have been owned since the 19th century with the Montrachet parcel being purchased at auction in 1918. Of the many things that have gone on at this great Domaine over the years I was most interested to learn that is was indeed the Domaine's founder, Jules Lafon who began the now world famous La Paulée celebration, when he was Mayor of Meusault in 1923. Today it is Jules' great-grandson and winemaking genius, Dominique Lafon who makes wines. DW
