TENUTA GUADO AL TASSO
Guado al Tasso is Antinori's estate in Maremma on the Tuscan Coast. Its four castles and eighty-six towers beckon the past and were originally built to protect the region from Saracen invaders. The 1,000 hecatre property sits squarely in the Bolgheri DOC, once noted for its rosis and whites but now a hotbed for the production of Super Tuscans. Antinori's Guado al Tasso Bolgheri DOC Superiore epitomizes this movement and is made from 60 Cabernet Sauvignon and 30 Merlot with the remainder being Syrah and other red grape varities. The balanced wine displays spicy, red cherries more typical of Bolgheri, eluding the jammy, cassis-laden sameness that typifies many internationally styled Bordeaux-style blends.
