BERINGER PRIVATE RESERVE

Originally founded by brothers Jacob and Frederick Beringer in 1876, Beringer claims to be "the oldest continually operating winery in the Napa Valley". A must see destination on any tour of the Napa Valley, the winery features the original hand-chiseled rock tunnels for storing wine and Frederick's former residence, the historic "Rhine House", which is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Following a down period in the 60's and early 70's, then assistant winemaker, Ed Sbragia, breathed new life into the winery through his introduction of Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon in 1977. It quickly became a California classic. Despite its size, Beringer continues today, with Sbragia now at the helm, to fashion intense wines with mind-boggling consistency.
