The 1997 Merlot Limited Reserve's (750 cases) dark ruby color is followed by sweet, mocha-infused black cherry fruit intermixed with the ever-present new oak. On the attack, it reveals good ripeness and what appear to be high quality raw materials, but then the acid kicks in and the wine tastes attenuated, clipped, and short.
