ABACUS
A truly unique wine, Abacus attempts to combine the delicacy and nuance of an aged wine with the vigor and strength of one in its youth. Its first release blended the 1992 through 1998 vintages of ZD Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. Only 15 of the blend was bottled. The barrels were topped off with the latest vintage, thus mimicking the solera system used in making sherry. Upon each bottle hangs a medallion displaying an abacus that indicates exactly which vintages are contained within. The effort is widely successful and highly acclaimed, the wines flaunting an unusual yin and yang of youthful exuberance coupled with a more developed character.
