Lot Essay

Pieter Cornelisz. Verbeeck specialised in paintings of horses, hunting scenes, smithies and stables. The influence of artists working in Haarlem in this period is clearly evident. One thinks especially of the work of Philips Wouwermans and his depictions of horses and camp scenes, as well as the horse painter, Dirck Stoop, whom Verbeeck met in Utrecht in 1640.
