We are grateful to Everett Fahy for advancing the attribution on the basis of a transparency. He compares the present picture with the documented mosaic of The Madonna and Child with Two Angels, of 1496, in the Musée de la Renaissance, Château d'Ecouen (see J. K. Cadogan, Domenico Ghirlandaio. Artist and Artisan, New Haven and London, 2000, pp. 324-5, pl. 167), and with his altarpiece of The Madonna and Child with Saints Louis, John the Evangelist and Two Donors, dated 1486, in the St. Louis Art Museum, St. Louis (inv. 109:1922, see ibid., pp. 326-8, pl. 317).
