LA GUERINIERE, François Robichon de (1688-1751). École de Cavalerie, Paris: Huart et Moreau fils, 1751. 2° (446 x 282mm). Engraved frontispiece, 22 engraved plates, 3 folding, by or after A. Coquart and J. Parrocel, engraved headpieces to text (occasional light spotting or browning to text and plates). Contemporary cat's-paw calf, spine tooled in seven compartments, lettered in the second (lightly rubbed, joints slightly split). Provenance: ?A. S. Willets (ownership inscription on title) -- John Clevland (c. 1707-1763; printed booklabel) -- by descent to the present owners.
FIRST REPRINT OF THE FIRST FOLIO EDITION. École de Cavalerie first appeared in 16° format in 1729-31, and was first published as a folio two years later. Mennessier de la Lange described the 1733 folio, of which the present edition is a reprint, as 'un des plus beaux ouvrages qui aient paru en France sur le cheval'.
