Lot Essay

According to research, in 1972 Marc Bolan ordered approximately six similar costumes in various colours, for stage use. The long flowing shoulder panels earned them the name "bat wings". They were used predominantly on Bolan's tour of North America, 1973. The June, 1979 issue of the Fan Club newsletter included in this lot features a photograph of the newsletter's author holding up the costume, which had been donated by Marc's parents to a raffle to help raise funds for the Fan Club.
