The vendor was a staff writer for Melody Maker magazine in the 1970s, and became friendly with Keith Moon when they met at the photo-shoot for the album Meaty Beaty Big & Bouncy in September, 1971. Moon subsequently gave the vendor this t-shirt on 9th October, 1971, when he stopped off at Moon's home, Tara, en-route to the Who's gig at Guildford University. They travelled to the gig together, accompanied by former Lovin' Spoonful singer John Sebastian, Moon's house-guest at the time, who subsequently appeared on stage with The Who later that night. It was Sebastian, renowned for making his own tie-dye t-shirts, who had originally given Moon the t-shirt in this lot.
