Lot Essay

Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker both left The Graham Bond Organisation in May/June 1966 to form what has come to be thought of as the first 'Super Group' with Eric Clapton - Cream. Although this was an early performance for Cream, when their now legendary status in the annals of Rock History is considered, it seems remarkable that the group were only paid £150 for this performance. The previous year, The Yardbirds had received a salary of £300 and the following year The Who - £400 and Traffic - £450. Pink Floyd on the other hand received only half the salary of Cream at the same venue only five months later.
