Each with pierced baluster toprail between reeded downswept arms, the sides with roundels centred by flowered medallions, on reeded shaped legs joined by reeded stretchers, each stamped twice with registration mark

James Shoolbred and Co. of Tottenham Court Road, became one of the first large department stores in London. They expanded from a small draper business and started to manufacture high quality furniture circa 1870, for which they were given a Royal warrant by the mid-1880s.
Two pairs of Shoolbred stools (one with maker's stamp and registration mark) were sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 15 April 1999, lot 43 and 29 November 2001, lot 276.
