The cartouche-shaped padded back, armrests and seat covered in yellow foliate material, with scrolled arms, on cabriole legs and scrolled feet; and A REGENCY ROSEWOOD FOOT-STOOL, early 19th century, with pink velvet padded top and cabriole legs, the stool reduced in width

Lot Essay

This chair in the French manner relates to a design of a 'Modern Chair now in use' in Thomas Malton's Complete Treatise of Perspective, 1775, pl. XXXIII, fig. 131. A similar set of armchairs were sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 23 June 1960, lot 90.
