Lot Essay

Nickele was heavily influenced by the first great Dutch church interior painter Pieter Jansz. Saenredam. Along with other artists like the brothers Gerrit Adriaensz. and Job Adriaensz. Berckheyde, Nickele continued in that style of accurately recording interiors of churches in Haarlem, like Saint Bavo's, while increasing the dramatic use of perspective with well drawn figures.
