Mr Bodde came from a warm and creative home as his English mother, née Hodgkinson, was a gifted artist. Due to his immersion in the fine arts as a boy, he developed a keen eye and discerning nature at an early age. His interest and enthusiasm for the arts remained and together with his wife he developed a passion for paintings from the Hague School and 'Eighties Movement'. During the war they supported contemporary artists whom they had befriended. Works by these artists are also part of the collection and remain with the descendants of these selfless benefactors. After the Second World War, Mr and Mrs Bodde emigrated to England where they continued adding to their collection, which became an important link to their Dutch homeland. Further works from this collection will be offered in these rooms on 14 June 2005. PROPERTY FROM THE BODDE-HODGKINSON COLLECTION (Lots 158-160 and 195-202)
