Lot Essay

The present lot emphasizes Tholen's preoccupation with light. The large sky, which is captured as sunlight fades, presents a wide range of tones from orange and pink to yellow and grey. It is noteworthy that Tholen has chosen to show the horizon where the sun has just set, creating a visual effect not unlike overexposure.
