The chestnut-brown field arranged with diagonal rows of rhomboidal 'C' guls containing minor naldag motifs, in an ivory hooked border between geometric stripes, each end with a broad piled serrated leaf skirt and plain chestnut-brown outer stripe, small localised spots of wear, some scattered repair, selvages frayed

This piece is one of a small group of rare Kazak rugs which have a particularly archaic feel. The present lot is very similar to an example sold in These rooms, 29 April 1993, lot 357, although the border and field design on this lot has been simplified.
