SIGNED SULTANAT, WEST PERSIA, DATED AH 1341/1922 AD
The soft shaded raspberry-red field with dense palmette vine surrounding an indigo cartouche panel at either end filled with abstract floral sprays enclosed in sky-blue frames, above and below a large stepped indigo medallion filled with scrolling vine arabesques issuing delicate floral sprays, flanked at each end by a pair of statuesque lions and small dogs, in a narrow indigo linked flowering vine border between ivory split-palmette vine stripes, full pile throughout, an inscription cartouche at one end in the outer stripe, overall excellent condition

Lot Essay

The inscription is poorly written but appears to say that the design for this carpet was made by Sultanat in the year of the enthronement of Reza Pahlavi in AH 1341/1922 AD. The top line is a Persian couplet.
