Of slender rectangular form, the front painted with two conversing figures standing on a riverbank with willows and pavilions, the reverse with long inscription fininished by one red seal, with stopper

Lot Essay

Ma Shaoxuan (1867-1939) was a very accomplished artist of the Beijing school of painting, which was first started by Zhou Leyuan and included other artists such as Ding Erzhong, Ye Zhongsan, and Ziyizi. An inside painted snuff bottle with figures in a landscape was sold in our New York Rooms, The Blanche B. Extein Collection of Fine Snuff bottles, 21 March 2002, lot 82.
