Chronometerwerke in Hamburg were founded in 1905 with the aim to carry out repairs and maintenance of chronometers on German merchant ships. In 1938, Herbert Wempe acquired the firm in order to strengthen the craftsmanship in his firm Gerhard Wempe and changed the name to "Wempe Chronometerwerke".
In the years to come, the company specialized in the production of fine marine chronometers and launched the first electrically wound ship's chronometer in 1962.
In order to respond to the increasing demand of their clients, Wempe began production of wristwatches in small series, starting with the wristwatch-chronometer in 1997 followed by the aviator's watch in 2001.
The present model, the Wempe Chronograph, was launched in 2003. The dials and movements used are nostalgic reminders of bygone times; the original Chronometerwerke enamel dials were made between 1920 and 1930, the hand-engraved Valjoux 22 calibre movements date from the 1950s.
The "Wempe Chronograph" was made in 18K pink gold and is strictly limited to only 30 examples worldwide.
