Lot Essay

A bifolium from the monumental Qur'an, the Mushaf al-Hadinah , ('The Nurse's Qur'an'), known to have been made for the former nurse of the Zirid ruler al-Mui'zz b. Badis in Qairawan in AH 410 1019-20 AD by 'Ali al-Warraq and his workshop. With its unique bold variant kufic script, this Qur'an was among the grandest of early Islamic codices.
