Lot Essay

This fascinating collection of early documents was collected by George Anastase Michaelides (1900-1973). Born in Cairo, he formed a fine collection of Egyptian antiquities. Some of the pieces are in museum collections and others were sold at Christie's South Kensington, 29 October 2003.

The collection comprises documents that date from the 12th century through to the 19th and include legal, talismanic and some rather more personal pieces, including a c.12th century love letter and correspondance between slaves and their masters. A full list is available from the department on request.
