A QAJAR TURQUOISE INSET PARCEL-GILT SILVER WRITING SET
IRAN, SECOND HALF 19TH CENTURY
Comprising a truncated rectangular base panel with downturned sides resting on four small feet, the top with two inset box inkwells with hinged domed covers flanked by grooves which serve as rests for two pens, the whole surmounted and dominated by a large peacock with separate flaring tail, the base and inkwells with applied scrolling floral designs inset with turquoises, together with two similar peacocks with red glass inset eyes, the pens and peacock with surfaces completely covered with small cabochon turquoises, the peacock tail surrounded by separate rosettes attached by springs allowing them to shimmer, one pen nib missing, generally excellent condition
