Each pierced rocaille-moulded cover surmounted by a large bouquet, above an inverted pear-shaped vase, finely painted after Watteau with vignettes of figures in gardens before ruins, the reverse with bouquets of deutsche Blumen within an applied flower and fruit surround scrolling to form the vine handles and applied with insects, the lower socles similarly moulded, and applied with either a nymph or a putto holding a basket of flowers, a companion putto above

Lot Essay

See Dr. K. Berling, ed., Meissen China: An Illustrated History, New York, 1972, p. 52 and 56, fig. 114 for an example of this model circa 1910. Kändler originally designed this model in the 18th century for Frederick the Great in various sizes and with alternate side-figures.
