Capable of executing accurate portraits and academic monuments in bronze and marble and employed as a sculptor at Sèvres from 1892-1906, Alfred Boucher often had an erotic edge to his work, as exemplified by the present nude.
His lifesize nude of this subject, completed in 1892, was acquired by the Luxembourg Gardens and is currently in the Musée des Beaux Arts, Pau. A reduction in marble was sold Sotheby's London, 29 September 1999, lot 369. The model was edited in biscuit porcelain in two sizes. The present example is one of at least thirty-six made between 1900 and 1929. The model first came into production at the factory in 1896.
