An important large German silver and parcel-gilt tankard
Mark of Jürgen Richels, Hamburg, 1664-1698
Cylindrical, on three gilt ball supports, scroll handle, the body and cover chased and embossed with scrolling foliage and flowers against matted ground, plain gilt upper rim, hinged domed cover with laurel band and shaped gilt fluted thumb-piece, the inner rim of the cover with Russian inscription, inside gilding, marked on base
20.5 cm. high
1066 gr.
The inscription in old Russian may be translated as: March Moscow, 1740 The Holy Arch bishop of the head church of Tverskoy area presented to Wasili Ivanowitch Wecherin in ever lasting peace
