Rivington [and others], 1779. 12° (6¼ x 3¾in; 160 x 94mm), 2 engraved plates of fortification billiards, woodcut of draught table (plates spotted, occasional light staining), contemporary sheep (spine worn, front cover detached, stitching weak); together with The New Pocket Hoyle part 2 in original slipcase (1808, final leaves detached, without title-page) and 4 other editions of the same work (1790, 1800, 1808 ex Goldman, and 1835).
Although Hoyle died in 1769, the work which had started as a simple treatise on whist lived on, the 1775 edition being the first to include the laws of cricket. cf. Padwick 153. (6)
