First published in 1798 [Padwick states 1797]. In Act II, scene 11, Dick Dowlas tells his tutor, Doctor Pangloss, that he will take him to London and introduce him to all the fashionable pastimes. "I'll tell you what, doctor," he proposes, "I'll make you my long-stop at cricket ...." (p. 34). cf. Padwick 874.
