(5 x 2¾in; 129 x 66mm), 44p. + advertisement leaf, title with woodcut vignette, 42 woodcut illustrations, one to each page of text (tear into text on pp. 17-18, some old browning and staining), red roan. Provenance: J.W. Goldman (binding and pasted-over bookplate; lot 122 in his sale at Hodgson's, 24 November 1966, sold to Baxter for £6-10-0 according to the sale results but with pencil inscription in Goldman's hand, "[?]Reserved for Desmond ... 1968").
The tiny woodcuts illustrate a wide variety of children's sports and games, including cricket on p. 33. NO COPY IN BL. Library of Congress catalogue lists an earlier edition of [1818]. Goldman p. 165: "very rare item and early for American cricket"; not in Padwick.
