WILLIAM LAMBERT
The Cricketers' Guide: or, A Concise Treatise on the Noble Game of Cricket
Lewes: Sussex Press, printed and sold by J. Baxter, London: Baldwin & Co. and Sherwood & Co., Langley, Harrild, and Derby: Mozley, [1819?]. 12mo. (6¼ x 3¾in; 159 x 95mm), 62p., folding engraved frontispiece, woodcut title vignette (frontispiece tipped onto front wrapper and with waterstain at foremargin, paper fault affecting outer margin of E1), brown buckram for Goldman, original grey wrappers bound in (neat repair to front wrapper). Provenance: J.W. Goldman (binding and bookplate).
Fifth edition, [?]first issue imprint, without the inserted slip noting "alterations since printing page 55". Confusingly described as "fourth edition" on the title label, though fifth on the title-page, and evidently treated as the fourth edition by Goldman with spine lettered as such. The verso of the front wrapper continues to carry the advertisement for Baxter's Farmer's Account Book, and the title verso states: "Entered at Stationer's Hall" in black letter at the foot. FINE, TALL COPY. Padwick 383.
