London: Charles Knight, 1825. 8vo., folding lithographic facsimile of Teonge's diary, engraved additional title with vignette view (both spotted and browned, intermittent spotting of text), early 20th-century half roan. Provenance: Wm. [?]Ducton, 1849 (ownership signature and notes at end).

FIRST EDITION. This 17th-century diary of a naval chaplain mentions cricket in the entry for 6 May 1676 when a party of "at the least 40 of the English" ride out of Aleppo to find "a fine vally by a river syde". Their recreations for the day include "duck-hunting, fishing, shooting, handball, krickett, scrofilo" (p. 159). Goldman p. 75; Padwick 851.
