An amber coloured glass pouring vessel, India, Mughal, 18th century
With globular body, short neck and everted rim -- 5¼in. (13.3cm) high.
The vessel was probably based on a metal prototype, as this was a common feature of Mughal Period glass production. See 'Glass of the Sultans', S. Carboni, New York 2001, p.276. A number of similarly shaped vessels from the Kapadwanj, Gujarat are illustrated by S. Markel in 'Indian and Indianate Glass Vessels in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art', Journal of Glass Studies, vol.33, 1991, p.91.
