A Mughal dagger (Pesh Kabz), North India, 18th and 19th century
The single edged tapering watered steel blade plain save for gold damascened decoration at forte, the later mottled green jade hilt of curving reeded form terminating in three bunches of grapes, the red velvet covered wooden sheath with silver gilt mounts at each end engraved and originally inlaid in green enamel with diagonal rows of splayed leaf motifs -- 16 5/8in. (42.4cm.) long
