Arabic manuscript on paper, 159ff. with 12ll. black naskh, red highlights, green and red margins, calligraphic illumination in red, yellow, blue and green, full page illuminated ending, illuminated chapter headings, contemporary red morocco binding with flap -- Folio 8 x 6in. (21 x 15cm.)

Lot Essay

Included with the manuscript is a hand written note signed by a Cecil Graham, Beirut, March, 1862.

"This curious book of the Druzes was captured by the Turkish soldiers under Ismail Pasha (....) in 1861. Had a ... about ... in the Lebanon. The old priest (okkat) was surprised with it in his hands, and the Turks thinking he hid ..... killed him in their disappointment.
I had asked the Pasha to be careful of any such literary .....: he thought the ... to ..... Pasha the High Commissioner (son of .... the Turkish Priest), who presented it to me."
