Daisy Makeig-Jones (1881-1945), the designer of the following four lots, was employed at Wedgwood from 1909 until 1931, when the economic constraints of the Great Depression forced the Company to withdraw the Fairyland range from production. She began working in the pottery after an introduction by a distant relation to Cecil Wedgwood, who suggested that she might become a ceramic designer. Despite being the eldest daughter of a doctor and it being below her social station, she received an art training. Her fascination with lustre glazes led to experiments and in 1914 a range of wares decorated with butterflies, fish and dragons appeared. During the following year the first Fairyland designs were produced and offered for sale in the subsequent year. The Property of a Private Family Trust

The 'signpost signature' identifies the date on which the design was completed, 7th May 1924, the shape of the pot and it being a medium size example. This pattern only appears on this shape and size of vase.
