Lot Essay

We are grateful to Professor Riccardo Lattuada for proposing the attribution on the basis of a photograph. He relates the picture stylisticaly to the allegorical cycle painted by Guerrieri for the second salon of Palazzo Borghese, Rome, in 1617 and to the Hercules and Omphale formerly in the G.M.B. collection, Vignola (see A. Emiliani, Giovan Francesco Guerrieri da Fossombrone: Catalogo delle opere, Bologna, 1997, pp. 66-74, nos. 19-21; pp. 78-80, no. 26).
