Desprez, 1777. 12° (167 x 95mm), (first and last few leaves a little spotted), contemporary red morocco gilt with ARMS OF THE DEDICATEE, LE NOIR [Olivier 288 fer 15, cf. 270] on sides, marbled endpapers, edges marbled and gilt (very little wear at extremities, tiny wormhole at foot). Provenance: Jean-Charles-Pierre Le Noir (1732-1807; binding) -- Prof. Deneux (19th-century booklabel) -- Edward J. Stanley, 1901 (note on flyleaf) -- Charles Lodovic Lindsay (stamp, tiny blindstamp on title) -- Duke of Rutland, Belvoir Castle, 1926 (stamp, note recording bequest to Rutland by Cpt. Lindsay 1925).

In 1777 Le Noir was not only lieutenant-general of the police at Paris but also guardian of the Royal Library.
