A bibliophile of distinction, in addition to his high-level administrative and political roles, Sartine formed a library enhanced by its 'magnifiques reliures' (Olivier). Sartine Island, British Columbia, was named after him as Minister of the Navy by the explorer La Pérouse. The current work was placed on the Index in 1764 for its controversial call to reorganise the Church with a sharp diminution of papal powers.

[With]: SARTINE, Autograph letter signed to Monsieur Frammery, 10 May 1779, 2½ pages, bifolium, 4to. Concerning naval manoeuvres in the Baltic, and Sartine's efforts to secure help from the King for Frammery, following his enforced departure from his residence at Droutheim, assuring him of limitless Marine funds.
