FIRST LATIN EDITION of this 3rd-century classic considered to be the earliest known text on cookery; but beyond this it is an immense storehouse of miscellaneous information on music, songs, dances, games and courtesans. The work first appeared in its original Greek in 1514, printed by Aldus. This first Latin edition was translated by Natale Conti, best-known for his poem on hunting and his De mythologia, and 2 other editions of this work, both translated by Conti, also appeared in 1556.
