MADAME DU BARRY'S COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION of Cailhava's comedy. It premiered on 30 Septembre 1765 at the Comédie-Française, Paris to such acclaim that the playwright was called to the stage to acknowledge the applause. Celebrated for her beauty, Madame Du Barry was an influential favourite of Louis XV. Exiled by Louis XVI, she was later executed during the Revolution. Her library, largely bound by Louis Redon (cf. Thoinan p.382), was confiscated at her death.
