CHATEAUBRIAND, François René, vicomte de. Memoirs, Letters and Authentic Details relating to the Life and Death of ... [the] Duke de Berry. London: C. and J. Ollier, 1821. 8° (220 x 135mm), contemporary red straight-grained morocco by HERING with his ticket, spine ornately gilt with a fleur-de-lys at centre of each compartment, sides with a gilt border of eight fillets intersected with gouges to form strapwork junctions, enclosing large blind-tooled arabesque cornerpieces and at the centre an oval frame with surrounds in gilt containing the blindstamped arms of the Duc de Berry, wide turn-ins and matching inside joints tooled with an arabesque roll, green watered silk doublures and endpapers with gilt fillet border and a fleur-de-lys in the corners, gilt edges. An anonymous translation from the French edition of 1820 in a fine binding from the Hering bindery continued by Charles Hering's brother and sons from the former's death in 1815 until 1845 when the premises were taken over by James Clyde who had been the bindery foreman.
