The first complete edition of probably the most popular and influential poem on the appreciation and pleasure of gardens, first published in 1782 and here expanded by nearly 1,100 new verses. The Abbé Delille presents his views on how gardens should be designed and managed, with special preference given to landscape gardens (he detested formal gardens) and the relationships between gardening and painting. Hunt II, 702; Lindley Library 255; Brunet II, 576.
